Premiere "Pro"

I am by no means a pro video editor, but I have to admit, Premiere Pro has been the easiest of the Adobe Creative Suite products to pick up. As mentioned in previous posts, I was fairly confident in what I had learned about Premiere from Lynda.com but I was interested to see how well my latent knowledge would fare in the big leagues of our first video editing assigment. In all honesty, the first day wasn't the most natural or easy video editing experience. I clicked around a lot. I hit undo a bunch. I restarted several times.  The problem was that my partner and I filmed our interviews in one single take, which sent me on an interesting journey to stitch clips together. I started by making a million copies of the same file and utilitized the "I" and "O" capabilities to trim down the clips to the sections I wanted. It was fine, but there were a ton of clips to manage. Then my professor showed me the razor tool, and that made my life a million times easier. Class ended on Tuesday with two clips (the original and the sharper, color-balanced one) in my editing bay and three cuts made. Progress, to say the least, but I was not sure I was going to be able to finish at the pace I was going.  Thursday rolled around and I was far more prepared for the task at hand. I sliced away at my clip, I inserted photos and b-roll like a pseudo-pro, I created transitions, I locked down background music, and best of all, I completed half the video. How did I leave class on Thursday? Thrilled would be an understatement.

Though this project has come with a bit of fear (and something that looks a lot like stress) I am slowly but surely picking up on it and getting the hang of it. Every time I sit down in Premiere Pro, I get a little more confident and start to become more efficient.

I can't say I'm a pro yet, but I have hopes to be one day. Premiere Pro is the first adobe product I feel confident enough to use that I want to have it on my personal laptop. If I rent Adobe Creative Suite, it will be because of Premiere Pro. It is undoubtedly my favorite (but don't tell the others.)
