In Social Media Marketing, we are learning about the power of podcasting. I genuinely enjoy listening to podcasts, especially while I'm driving. So when we were encouraged to create our own, I have to say I got pretty excited about it. We were supposed to give a brief history of us, so to speak. So without further ado, here is my first ever podcast creation!

Boomer Sooner!

My name is Bailey. I’m an almost 20 year-old (my birthday is this Friday) I’m a sophomore majoring in Public Relations at the University of Oklahoma.

A little bit about me: I grew up in Prosper, Texas, which is a suburb of north Dallas.

And I wish I had some funny awkward embarrassing stories to share that no one knows about me; however, I’m pretty much an open book. Everyone knows I can knit, I’m obsessed with English Bulldogs (like almost to an unhealthy degree), I love watching classic movies, I enjoy editing papers for fun…nothing too scandalous, nor all that secretive.

As far as childhood memories go, my favorite has to be the time my childhood crush kissed me on the cheek while we were in third grade..why is this funny, you might ask? well probably because I spent the subsequent six months worried that I was pregnant from said kiss on the cheek. I was quite concerned that I was carrying his child. Needless to say, I had nothing to worry about. Funnily enough, my former crush and I are still friends and we laugh about that to this day.

The Fam Bam

My family is absolutely wonderful. I’ve got the coolest parents, shout out to Don and Jen, a super athletic baseball stud of a brother named Braxton, and two precious doggies: a sweet little Maltese named Jackson and precious English Bulldog named Bo.

College life is wonderful. I greatly enjoy it. I love my sorority, my college and my friends. I just really can’t complain.

A little backstory as to why I came to OU: I came here for the boys...just kidding. Actually, I chose to come to OU for my major at the time, which was visual communications. And we can just take a moment of silence for pre-freshman me who thought design would be a great idea for my career path! Ironically, design is one of the things I’m absolutely worst at; however, after bouncing around between theatre and an education major, I ended up right where I was supposed to: in Gaylord College as a PR major.

I am currently in a relationship with my sorority…I’m on the executive council so I spend..mmm about 90% of my life working on something srat related. Lame, I know, but I really do love it. I am the Education Vice President and I just greatly enjoy my job. Um, does this mean I’m single? Absolutely.

As far as employment goes, I currently am a baby-taxi on the side! I pick up a sweet little munchkin from kindergarten every day and drop her off at her after school program. Her name is Maddie, we love to grab ice cream from Braums on our way home and sing a lot of Disney.

The best advice I have ever been given is “Don’t borrow trouble from tomorrow.” I tend to be a worrier, which is fairly obvious given the aforementioned elementary school pregnancy scare story. So anytime I start too stress to much about things that are out of my control, I just remember to not borrow trouble from tomorrow and focus on today.

A typical day in the life of Bailey Anne Edrington includes waking up around 8. It’s the perfect time to get up. I start my day by reading my favorite book and journaling, then I get up and go to French class. Depending on the day of the week, I either have classes all afternoon or a bit of a break before I pick up Maddie from school. Then I generally hang out with my friends for a little bit, eat some dinner, then proceed to do homework and work on GPhi things. Somewhere in there, I generally FaceTime my dogs and call my parents. Maybe I'll go for a run if I’m feeling extra sporty. Super exciting, I know.

Now switching gears to more PR focused discussion: I want to take a second to talk about brands.Especially he most annoying thing brands do on social media, which for me, more than anything, I cannot stand when I am watching a video and right smack dab in the middle of it, a brand inserts an ad. The other day I was watching a clip from the Jimmy Fallon show and an ad pops up literally a minute into the video. I’m ok with ads right before a video, but lately, brands have started to interrupt videos in the middle and nothing irks me more than that.

My favorite social networks are Twitter and Instagram, by far. They're my favorite places to consume and create content. I think they’re super versatile and laid back, which makes content creation so much more fun. I’ve also recently discovered I have a huge love for blogging! I currently blog on my own website andI am about to start blogging for a nonprofit organization called We are Beautiful and I am super excited about that!

Um, so yeah. That’s me in a nutshell with a splash of some of my PR musings, free of charge. That’s all I’ve got for you today! So goodnight, everyone!
